Program Components
(Beginning with new participants in January 2007)
Academic Areas
- Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities
Topics include:
- Instructional Practices and Learning Environments
- Principles and Practices of Multicultural Education
- Guiding Student Behavior (on-line course)
These topics will include on-campus meetings, on-line discussions, and an on-line courses. You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.
- Content Area
- Content area course—depends upon certification area
You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.
3. Technology
- You will be required to take a 24 hours on-line technology course upon passing both TeXes exams.
4. Field-Based Experience (Select one)
- Internship: two semesters, lasts approximately 36 weeks (You are an employee of a school district as teacher of record.)
- Clinical teaching: one semester, lasts approximately 12 weeks

Trade and Industrial or Health Science Education Technology

Trade and Industrial Participants: You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) TIE exam. (TIE-PPR)
Health Science Education Technology Participants: You will be required to take and pass the TExES - PPR 8-12 exam.
- Content Area
- Content area course—depends upon certification area
Trade and Industrial Participants: Your certification or licensure in your trade serves as proof of proficiency in your work area. You will not have a content exam.
Health Science Education Technology Participants: You will be required to take and pass the TExES Health Science Technology exam.
- Attendance at conference
- Trade and Industrial Participants will attend the Mid-Winter New Teacher Workshop - November (For more information go to www.tiva.org)
- Health Science Technology Education participants will attend the Summer Professional Development Conference in July. (For more information go to www.texashste.com)
