Program Components

(Beginning with new participants in January 2007)


Academic Areas

  1. Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities

    Topics include:

    • Instructional Practices and Learning Environments
    • Principles and Practices of Multicultural Education
    • Guiding Student Behavior (on-line course)

    These topics will include on-campus meetings, on-line discussions, and an on-line courses. You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.

  2. Content Area
    • Content area course—depends upon certification area

  3. You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.

   3.    Technology

  • You will be required to take a 24 hours on-line technology course  upon passing both TeXes exams.

    4.   Field-Based Experience (Select one) 

  • Internship: two semesters, lasts approximately 36 weeks (You are an employee of a school district as teacher of record.)
  • Clinical teaching: one semester, lasts approximately 12 weeks

Trade and Industrial or Health Science Education Technology

    • Educational Software and Technology

    Trade and Industrial Participants:
    You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) TIE exam. (TIE-PPR)

    Health Science Education Technology Participants:
    You will be required to take and pass the TExES - PPR 8-12 exam.

  2. Content Area

    • Content area course—depends upon certification area

    Trade and Industrial Participants:
    Your certification or licensure in your trade serves as proof of proficiency in your work area. You will not have a content exam.

    Health Science Education Technology Participants:
    You will be required to take and pass the TExES Health Science Technology exam.

  3. Attendance at conference

    • Trade and Industrial Participants will attend the Mid-Winter New Teacher Workshop - November (For more information go to www.tiva.org)

    • Health Science Technology Education participants will attend the Summer Professional Development Conference in July. (For more information go to www.texashste.com)

  4. Field-Based Experience (Select one)
