(Beginning with new participants in January 2007)
Academic Areas
- Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities
Topics include:
- Instructional Practices and Learning Environments
- Principles and Practices of Multicultural Education
- Guiding Student Behavior (on-line course)
- Educational Software and Technology
These topics will include on-campus meetings, on-line discussions, and an on-line courses. You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.
- Content Area
- Content area course—depends upon certification area
- Field-Based Experience (Select one)
- Internship: two semesters, lasts approximately 36 weeks (You are an employee of a school district as teacher of record.)
- Clinical teaching: one semester, lasts approximately 12 weeks
You will be required to take and pass the Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES) exam for PPR.
OR
Trade and Industrial or Health Science Education Technology

- Content area course—depends upon certification area
Trade and Industrial Participants:
Your certification or licensure in your trade serves as proof of proficiency in your work area. You will not have a content exam.Health Science Education Technology Participants:
You will be required to take and pass the TExES Health Science Technology exam. - Attendance at conference
- Trade and Industrial Participants will attend the Mid-Winter New Teacher Workshop - October (For more information go to www.tiva.org)
- Health Science Technology Education participants will attend the Summer Professional Development Conference in July. (For more information go to www.texashste.com)
