Program Description

The EMT represents one of the many facets in pre-hospital medicine. EMT services are utilized by various agencies such as ambulance, fire and hospital facilities. The EMT's primary responsibility is to bring expert medical care to persons involved in emergency situations. This entails utilizing basic life support equipment and skills in a proficient and professional manner. An EMT's duties must be performed unsupervised in a variety of circumstances and often under physical and emotional stress.

The EMT-Basic course is one semester and includes eight credit hours of clinicals (24 hours emergency room and 56 hours ambulance). Upon completion of the EMT-Basic course and clinical component, the student is eligible to sit for National Registry of EMT exam. Passing the examination will certify a student as an EMT-Basic. An EMT-Basic can expect to earn approximately 25-30K/year in a full-time position.

Requirements for the course include:

Health examination
Current immunizations
Hepatitis vaccination
Background check

Each semester courses are pending the Texas Department of State Health Services approval.
