Educational Aide Exemption

Texas needs more qualified teachers. A program has been created by the State that covers tuition and some fees for educational aides who enroll in colleges to become certified teachers. This exemption may only be used at public colleges or universities in Texas.

Qualifications:

To apply for an Educational Aide Exemption (EAE) you must:

  • be a Texas resident;
  • have applied for financial aid through college to be attended, including filing the FAFSA or by qualifying on the basis of adjusted gross income;
  • have been employed as an educational aide, for at least one of the past five school years, or as a substitute teacher for 180 days of the past five school years preceding the term or semester for which the student is awarded his or her initial exemption;
  • be currently employed by a public school district;
  • enroll in courses leading to teacher certification; and
  • meet academic requirements established by the college or university

SFA Community College Transfer Scholarship
LSC-O and Stephen F. Austin State University Partnership (FIPSE Grant)

NEW OPPORTUNITY!

You can earn your bachelor's degree and teaching certificate online. Complete your AAT with Lamar State College-Orange then transfer to Stephen F. Austin to finish your bachelor's degree and teacher certification.

The SFA Community College Transfer Scholarship Program offers new students transferring form community colleges ONLY an opportunity to qualify for awards up to $2000. The scholarship is awarded to students who start either fall or spring semester. There is no application for the scholarship. Students will automatically be considered and notified of their eligibility upon receipt of a completed application for admission and official college transcript(s). It is strongly recommended that students apply early in order to receive full consideration for the scholarship.
