Computer Skills for Online Courses
Online classes
aren't for everyone. You MUST have certain computer skills in order to
succeed. You should not sign up for these courses unless you know how
to:
- Start up and shut down your
computer.
- Open and close software
programs installed on your computer's hard drive.
- Use your computer's operating
system (either Windows 95 or higher, Mac OS 8 or higher).
- Use a word processor (type
in text, save and retrieve files, print, copy, cut, paste, format).
- Connect to and use the Internet
(find, visit and navigate web sites, use search engines).
- Send and receive email.
- Use Internet browser to
access web (WWW).
General
Online Computer Requirements
In order to
take an online course, your computer equipment must meet the following
requirements:
PC Users
- Pentium class PC or equivalent
- A minimum of 32 megabytes
of RAM (64 recommended)
- Windows 95 or higher
- Sound Blaster compatible
sound card and speakers
- 640X480, 256 color monitor
or better (800X600 recommended)
- 28.8
bps modem or higher OR Ethernet Internet connection
- Netscape Communicator 4.0
or higher. Internet Explorer 5.0 or higher.
- Check with your course instructor
for any additional requirements for your specific course.
MAC Users
- A Power PC running Mac
OS 7.6.1 or later
- A minimum of 32 megabytes
of RAM (64 recommended)
- 640X480, 256 color monitor
or better
- 28.8 bps modem OR Ethernet
Internet connection
- Computer speakers and Sound
Card
- An Internet Service Provider
(ISP) OR Ethernet Internet connection
- Netscape Communicator 4.0
or higher. Internet explorer or higher.
