LSC-O Workforce Development Brings Out the Big Toys
Lamar State College-Orange has a great line-up of equipment training over the next couple of months! Whether you’re interested in bulldozers, cranes, or aerial platforms, we’ve got something to advance your skills!
Earth Moving Equipment Operator Training is being offered NOW at LSC-O! Learn how to utilize three types of earth-moving equipment at one-day trainings for the backhoe, trackhoe, and bulldozer. Training includes understanding hydraulic systems, establishing safety and maintenance check routines as well as the duties and responsibilities of each operator. The backhoe training is set for Thursday, September 24, the trackhoe training for Thursday, October 22, and the bulldozer training will be held on Thursday, November 12. Each course has a $115 registration fee and meets OSHA standard 1920.453.
LSC-O will be offering a non-credit Mobile Crane Operator Training class the week of October 12-16, 2009. Trainees will receive 40 hours of training that include the safe operation of both a fixed cab and swing cab mobile crane. Operators will learn the correct and safe way to operator in various weather conditions, load control and tag lines, precautions through the proper use of mats, cribbing and outriggers or crawlers, two blocking, power lines and public protection and hand signals and proper communication between with work crews. Emergency response procedures, transporting the crane, proper shut-down, using load charts and solving capacity questions, a pre-operational inspection, checklists and lift plans and how to asses sites for access, usability, hazards and restrictions will also be taught. Registration fee is $775. Interested participants who meet eligibility requirements may register at the Texas Workforce Commission and receive tuition assistance if awarded.
Operator training for Aerial Platforms will be offered for the first time at LSC-O. Students will receive 8 hours of training that teaches the safe operation of various types of platforms on Friday, November 6 from 8 am-5pm. Operators will learn how to complete a pre-operation inspection, safety procedures for raising and lowering platforms, safe driving and parking procedures, daily inspections and preparations; fueling and battery charging, entering and exiting lifts, fall protection, the recheck, driving on ramps while elevated, personal responsibility and how to manage malfunction cases. Registration fee is $115.
Students will receive classroom instruction and direct training on each machine. All registration fees may be paid by cash, check or companies may be invoiced. Each of these training sessions is being offered in partnership with Total Crane Services, Ltd. and Golden Triangle Industries, Inc. who will be providing the instruction and training equipment.
