Components of the Annual Unit Plan

  1. Purpose Statement
The statement for a unit is the controlling idea that determines everything else in the program or service unit. Thus, the statement must be a clear, concrete statement that delineates what the program or unit intends to accomplish. The program or unit purpose statement must be appropriate to and relate to the overall Mission of the College.

  2. Objectives
Each program or unit develops objectives that clearly indicate “what” is to be accomplished. Objectives should be stated in measurable terms using concrete action verbs. Keep the SMART concept in mind: specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and time limited.

  3. Evidence of need
Cite specific assessment data or other resources that validate the need for the objective.

  4. Strategies
This section describes “how” one will accomplish the objective. Be specific with the activities, change in procedure and/or implementation of policy that will be used.

  5. Budget Impact
Indicate if accomplishing the objective has budget impact by placing the word “yes” or “no” in this column. If desired, indicate the expected amount of funds required.

  6. Linkage to Mission/Objectives
Indicate which part of the LSC-O Mission Statement, Operational Objectives, or Critical Focus Goals that the objective is tied to.
