If the FALL-FIFTY is a scholarship drawing, why am I doing the FAFSA?

In Financial Aid completion, Texas ranks a distant 31, with a completion rate of 55.2 percent among the 50 states. Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) wants to ensure that every eligible Texan uses the free resources available from federal aid. If you qualify, Financial Aid funds will be applied to your student account. If your Financial aid is not enough to cover tuition or fees and you are a FALL-FIFTY drawing winner, LSCO will cover up to $500 of the remaining tuition and fee expenses. If your Financial aid exceeds the cost of attendance, remaining funds will be issued as a refund and you will not be credited the $500 FALL-FIFTY scholarship.

If my fall LSCO account balance is less than $500 after all other financial aid is awarded and I win one of the FALL-FIFTY drawings, will I receive a refund for the difference?

No. Students who win the FALL-FIFTY drawing will be awarded up to $500 to cover the balance on the fall LSCO account. No cash will be issued to students who are unable to fully utilize the FALL-FIFTY scholarship.

I have paid for my fall 2020 classes and was selected to receive the FALL-FIFTY scholarship. How do I get my refund?

After your name is drawn for the FALL-FIFTY scholarship, college staff will begin reviewing your account. Once the review process has been completed, your account will be credited for up to $500 to cover the balance remaining after any Pell or other financial aid awards have been applied. A credit of up to $500 for the tuition and fees that you have already paid will be applied and the business office will begin initiating the process for a refund within a couple of weeks following the start of the fall 2020 semester.

Who can help me complete the FAFSA?

For assistance completing the FAFSA, please contact the LSCO Financial Aid staff by calling 409-882-3317 or emailing finaid@lsco.edu.
