Required Web Browser Settings

Before using WebCT the browser settings must be checked. A number of features in WebCT are based on Java scripting, and will not work if Java is not enabled in the browser. If the browser's cache is not cleared every time on the page displays, changes to the page will not appear.

What Browsers can I use?

• All versions of Netscape between 4.0 and 4.7 (Netscape works best)

• All versions of Internet Explorer (IE) between 4.0 and 4.5

Extremely Important: Do NOT use the AOL browser!

If you use American Online for web access you need to have AOL installed as well as IE or a copy of Netscape that you have downloaded and installed on your machine. Connect with AOL, but then minimize it and use one of the other browsers.

What Browser Settings are Necessary?

• If you don't know what version of a browser you are using, click the Help button in the menu bar in the drop-down list, click About Internet Explorer or About Netscape.
• Check your browsers capabilities

1. Set the browser to enable Javascript

Browser Type	Directions
Netscape	Go to Edit -> Preferences. Choose Advanced. Click the Enable Java and Enable Javascipt boxes. Click OK.
Internet Explorer	Go to Tools -> Internet Options. Choose the Advanced tab. From the long list of options find the Microsoft VM label and from there check the Java console enabled and Java logging enabled boxes. Click OK. Restart your computer if you checked the Java console enabled box.

2. Set the Cache to always reload a page.

Browser Type	Directions
Netscape	Select Edit -> Preferences. Click the + sign next to Advanced to see more options. Click cache, and then in the comparing documents section in the window at the right, check Every Time. Click OK.
Internet Explorer	Select Tools -> Internet Options. Choose the General tab. In the section titled Temporary Internet Files, press the Settings button. Check Every Visist to the Page. Click OK.

For Best Results, use Netscape 4.0 - 4.7 excluding Version 6 or Internet Explorer 4.0 or better.
