Fall 2025 Graduation Candidates

ORANGE, TX –  Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) celebrated its Fall 2025 Commencement Ceremony at 7:00 p.m. on December 18, 2025 at G&G Enterprises Arena, honoring graduates whose academic achievements reflect both individual perseverance and a period of historic growth for the institution.

Degrees were conferred by LSCO President Dr. Wendy Elmore as graduates crossed the stage surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and community leaders. The ceremony marked not only the culmination of students’ academic journeys, but also a defining moment in the college’s continued evolution as a regional leader in workforce and academic preparation.

“This ceremony represents far more than the completion of a credential,” said President Elmore. “It reflects the momentum of an institution that is growing with purpose by expanding access, aligning programs with workforce needs, and creating new pathways for students to succeed.”

The Fall 2025 Commencement comes during a period of unprecedented enrollment growth at LSCO. The college reported a certified Fall 2025 enrollment of 5,841 students, a significant increase from 3,613 students in Fall 2024, underscoring the rising demand for accessible, career-focused higher education options in the region.

Provost & Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs Dr. Tracy Skopek emphasized the broader significance of the milestone.

“Our graduates are entering the workforce or continuing their education at a time when preparation, adaptability, and applied learning matter more than ever,” Skopek said. “LSCO’s continued investment in new programs, facilities, and student support ensures our graduates are not only credentialed, but competitive.”

A total of 210 graduates earned 270 academic awards, including 95 associate degrees and 182 certificates. More than 76% of graduates were first-generation college students, underscoring LSCO’s role in expanding access to higher education. The class posted an average cumulative GPA of 3.33, with graduates ranging in age from 17 to 58 and an average age of 26. Academic pathways represented included strong concentrations in Industry and Transportation, Arts and Humanities, Health Professions, and Public Service, reflecting the college’s continued alignment with regional workforce and transfer needs.

Keynote remarks were delivered by Larry Spears, Jr., Mayor of the City of Orange, whose professional and civic journey reflects the strong connection between local industry, public service, and education. A graduate of West Orange–Stark High School, Lamar Institute of Technology, and Texas A&M University–Commerce, Spears also completed coursework at LSCO and has spent 24 years with DOW Chemical, where he serves as Site Operational Excellence Specialist.

In his address, Spears encouraged graduates to lead with integrity, remain committed to service, and recognize the role education plays in strengthening both individual opportunity and community prosperity.

LSCO’s growth has been accompanied by significant campus investment and academic expansion. Since 2019, the college has launched more than 30 new academic and workforce programs, opened a new Academic Building in Fall 2024, and unveiled a new Student Success Center in Spring 2025. Additional enhancements are on the horizon, including planned renovations to the façade of the Joe Ben Welch Student Center beginning in 2026.

As graduates exited the arena and stepped into their next chapters, the evening served as a reminder that LSCO’s impact extends well beyond a single ceremony, shaping a workforce, strengthening a community, and building momentum for the future.
