July 10, 2025

Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) CDL Program Director, Carl Cormier, is a dedicated teacher with a heart for his students. With a background in truck driving and a desire to mentor the next generation, Cormier hopes to be a valuable teacher in the lives of his students.

His experience in trucking consists of over 30 years in the industry. Cormier had the opportunity to work with his dad for ACME Truck Line out of Louisiana for many years and then as a charter bus driver before becoming an instructor at LSCO. These years of experience equipped him with the knowledge and industry connections he now utilizes as a program director.

In addition to his experience int the trucking industry, Cormier attended bible college after high school and went on to pastor a church in Scott, Louisiana for 25 years. It was during this time that he developed a love for teaching and mentoring others. This position provided him with many opportunities to learn and adapt his own unique teaching style that he utilizes now as an instructor.

In his classes, Cormier values tailoring his lessons to meet the individual needs of each student. He strives to deliver his courses in a way that makes knowledge digestible for everyone. As a program director, he seeks to provide everyone in the CDL program with an equal opportunity to succeed, an endeavor he has been extremely successful in.

“For almost three years now, we’ve changed the success rate tremendously,” Cormier said. “The first-time pass rate has gone up from 65-68% to 98%. That shows me our students are well taken care of.”

In his free time, Cormier seeks opportunities to expand professional connections for the CDL program. He is eager to watch the continual growth and success of his students and hopes to continually improve the training they get at LSCO.
