The Student Government Association (SGA) is gearing up for the 2025-2026 school year. With new faces, open officer positions, and a renewed excitement for the upcoming semester, SGA is looking forward to building a bigger community and support system for students.

SGA seeks to make Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) a better place for students and provide members with a like-minded community. Officers are continually pursuing new initiatives to tackle the needs of the growing student body. Just last year, they worked diligently for a $1.25 pay raise for student workers; this is just one of many examples of the proactive nature of the organization leaders.

The organization is seeking to fill four senator positions for the 2025-2026 school year. Applications for senator will open on August 14, and voting will start on September 4. Holding a leadership position benefits students in many ways. All officer positions feature a scholarship, networking opportunities, and a chance to grow more connected within the community. Officers take a proactive role in SGA and work persistently to see initiatives through.

SGA President Josh Taylor has seen a lot of change during his term. He has made huge strides for the LSCO student body and has even presented to the Texas State University System (TSUS) board as a Student Advisory Board (SAB) chair.

“My time in SGA has been incredible in terms of growth both personally and professionally,” Taylor said. “The opportunities I’ve been given have helped me find what career I want to pursue. I would tell any student to take a chance and get involved in SGA.”

Organization meetings are held every other Thursday at 3:00pm in the Joe Ben Welch Student Center, Room 202. Students unable to attend in person can join virtually through the Microsoft Teams link on the SGA website. Meetings are open to all students, giving everyone an equal opportunity to participate. The first meeting of the fall 2025 semester will take place on August 28.
