Cheatham Selected for Community Service Award

December 13, 2018

With many hours of selfless community service and volunteer events to her name, Linda Cheatham was selected as the 2018 Julie and Ben Rogers Community Service Award recipient for Lamar State College Orange.

Linda accepted the award Thursday, December 13, 2018 at an event at Lamar University honoring award winners from Lamar State College Orange, Lamar State College Port Arthur, Lamar Institute of Technology, and Lamar University.

Linda has worked for LSCO for 23 years and in that time has shown herself to be someone who embodies the volunteer spirit.

In her nomination letter, written by co-worker, friend and former award recipient, Butch Campbell, Linda is described as a person who always goes above and beyond.

“Linda is the first one there, and the last one to leave,” Butch wrote. “I have the opportunity many times to solicit help on projects on campus and off, and again I write Linda’s name in first because I know she will be calling me soon. How I wish I could get a dozen just like her!”

Lamar State College Orange President Dr. Tom Johnson agreed.

“Lamar State College Orange is blessed and fortunate to have a marvelous role model like Linda Cheatham, Johnson said. “She truly has a servant’s heart for our community.”

Linda’s list of volunteer events spreads throughout Orange County and beyond. She is active with events for the Sports Society for American Health, Orange Chamber of Commerce, Orange EDC, Back to School Orange County, Lions Club Charity Carnival, Southeast Texas Food Bank, as well as multiple organizations on the Lamar State College Orange campus.

Established more than 30 years ago, the Julie and Ben Rogers Award recognizes faculty or staff members from the Lamar campuses who make significant contributions to the community.
