Dear Gator Family,

As we move deeper into the spring semester, I want to pause and spotlight our students as well as share a few campus updates. More importantly, I want to thank you for the dedication and professionalism you continue to bring to your work each day.  Spring is always a demanding season in higher education. Between instruction, student support, budgeting, planning for summer and fall, and preparing for year-end reporting, the pace can feel relentless. I am keenly aware of that, and I hope you know that your efforts do not go unnoticed. YOU are the reason that LSCO continues to be a leader throughout the state!

Campus Updates

  • The Gator Café: A new menu has been released that is very popular and is bringing a lot more visitor traffic to campus! I encourage you to go and check out the wonderful menu and learn more about the “Bayou Board”. 😊
  • Boot Scootin’: The LSCO Foundation hosted another successful Boot Scootin’ fundraiser event to support scholarships for our students. Hosted at the Shahan Event Center, donors were able to visit our beautiful campus and support our students.
  • Budget Planning: Fiscal Year 2027 budget planning is underway, with budget hearings now completed. Thank you to those involved for the thoughtful preparation and engagement throughout this process.
  • Spring 2026: Eight‑Week Two is well underway, with week three beginning today. I appreciate the continued focus on student success during this fast‑paced session.
  • Welch Center Renovation: Planning for the Welch Center façade renovation continues, with work expected to begin around the end of the spring semester. We believe that we will have a refreshed Student Center completed around December 2026.
  • SaaS Migration: The SaaS migration has been completed, with teams continuing to review data and address any identified issues to ensure system stability and accuracy.  This migration is a major step in strengthening the reliability, performance, and overall efficiency of our systems and data. Many months of planning and hard work made this migration possible! THANK YOU!
  • Watermark Implementation: The initial phase Watermark implementation has been successful. This software provides a significant improvement in the “Gator Pass” system that LSCO faculty use as an “early alert” notification for students who are falling behind.  Thank you to everyone who supported the implementation.

Student Success Highlights

  • Moments like these remind us why we do this work and why Your Future, Our Focus is more than a slogan at LSCO; it is a daily commitment made visible through our students’ achievements.
  • On March 12th, LSCO proudly celebrated academic excellence at the Phi Theta Kappa Induction Ceremony, recognizing students whose dedication and perseverance enabled them to become a member of the Alpha Nu Gamma chapter of PTK.
  • On March 30th, the Dual Credit LVN Cohort 2 Signing Event in Lumberton marked an exciting milestone as dual credit students formally stepped into their future in nursing, surrounded by family, faculty, and community support.
  • On April 21st, LSCO will host the annual Student Ambassador Reception. This event celebrates the outgoing ambassadors and welcomes the incoming ambassadors who will serve 2026-2027.

All of these events and highlights are made possible by the dedication, mentorship, and care of our faculty and staff, whose daily work ensures that at LSCO, Your Future, Our Focus is lived out in meaningful and lasting ways for our students.

As the semester continues, I encourage you to take care of yourselves and one another, especially during the busiest weeks. Please don’t hesitate to lean on your supervisors and colleagues when you need support. We do our best work when we extend the same grace to one another that we strive to offer our students.

Thank you for your commitment to Lamar State College Orange and for the important role each of you plays in fulfilling our mission. I am proud of this campus and grateful for the work you do every day.

Wishing you a strong finish to the semester,

Blessings, always!
Wendy
