LSCO’s Operator Academy Fast Tracks Students Towards Industrial Careers

ORANGE, TX –Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) is helping meet a critical workforce need in Southeast Texas through its Operator Academy, an accelerated training program designed to prepare students for careers in petrochemical and industrial operations.

Now completing its second semester with its second graduating cohort, the academy offers a fast-track pathway for students seeking to enter the workforce quickly while gaining the skills and confidence required in high-demand industrial roles.

The 16-week program compresses the traditional process technology curriculum into a concentrated, full-time schedule. Students attend class eight hours a day, five days a week, combining classroom instruction with hands-on lab experience that mirrors real-world plant environments.

Through a blend of technical coursework, safety training and practical application, students learn to operate equipment, read industrial diagrams and respond to real-life scenarios. The program emphasizes safety, attention to detail and decision-making skills essential in industrial settings.

Instructor Tony Bramblett said the academy focuses not only on technical knowledge but also on building confidence and readiness. “You have to work safely and our obligations in management are the same as an instructor here. We want to send people home in the same healthy physical condition,” he said.

Students who complete the academy earn a Certificate in Process Technology and can continue working toward an associate degree by completing additional academic courses in person or online. This structure allows graduates to enter the workforce sooner while completing their education at their own pace.

For many students, the program’s speed and intensity are key advantages. Graduate Caeden Arceneaux said the experience provided valuable practical knowledge, especially when it comes to understanding the importance of precision and awareness in real-world settings. “Pay attention to detail. There's a lot of things that would seem like common sense that aren't,” he said.

The program serves a wide range of students, including recent high school graduates, military veterans and individuals reentering the workforce. The accelerated format and industry-aligned training make it especially appealing to those looking to transition quickly into stable, well-paying careers.

By working closely with industry partners, LSCO ensures the curriculum reflects current workforce needs. Training equipment often mirrors what students will encounter in local plants, helping graduates enter the job market with relevant, hands-on experience.

As the Operator Academy continues to grow, the college remains focused on providing accessible, efficient training that prepares students for success while supporting the economic needs of Southeast Texas. The program is positioning graduates to step confidently into one of the region’s most vital industries.
