LSCO’s Real Estate Program Builds Pathway from Classroom to Career

March 23, 2026

ORANGE, TX –Students at Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) are finding a direct path into the workforce through the college’s real estate program, which blends flexible coursework, industry insight and hands-on mentorship.

Designed to meet students at different stages of life, the program offers both certification options and an associate degree in real estate management. Whether students are seeking a career change or entering the workforce for the first time, the program emphasizes practical skills and real-world application.

Program director Martha Morian said the structure allows students to explore the field without committing to a lengthy or inflexible academic track.

Courses are delivered fully online, giving students the ability to balance school with work and family responsibilities. That flexibility mirrors the realities of the real estate profession, where success often depends on self-discipline and time management.

Morian said the program is intentionally designed to reflect those expectations.

“You really get a taste of what it’s like on your own, in your own time.” she said.

Beyond coursework, students benefit from strong connections to the local real estate industry. Employers remain actively engaged with the program, offering mentorship, guidance and opportunities for students to gain experience before graduation.

Crystal Meyers, a local real estate team leader with RE/MAX One, said she values the foundational knowledge students bring from the program, but places equal importance on character and work ethic when hiring.

“I can honestly tell you that my probably number one trait is, integrity and character?” Meyers said.

Meyers said the profession requires more than sales skills, noting that agents must navigate legal responsibilities, market trends and client relationships simultaneously. That complexity makes education and ongoing learning essential.

For students like Ava Rambo, the program has provided both knowledge and a smooth transition into the workforce. Rambo, who recently earned her real estate license while completing her degree and is currently working on Crystal Meyers’ team, said the combination of academic support and industry mentorship has been key to her success.

“It really has been super smooth just because of the support I’ve had with the team,” Rambo said. “They’ve really helped me with the actual professional side of it … and then I also have the support from the school and all my teachers.”

Rambo said one of the biggest lessons she has learned is that real estate requires continuous growth beyond the classroom.

Morian and Meyers both emphasized that this ongoing learning process is what makes the field both challenging and rewarding. Students graduate not only with credentials, but with a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in a dynamic and evolving industry.

By connecting education with real-world experience, LSCO’s real estate program continues to prepare students for meaningful careers while supporting the needs of the local community.
