LSCO x TSUS PCC Student Receives Lifechanging Scholarship

March 11, 2026

LIVINGSTON, TX – Lamar State College Orange and TheTSUS Polk County Centerhave awarded a scholarship to Raylee Gaston, a Vocational Nursing (VN) student who plans to use her education to serve patients in the local community and beyond.

Gaston is pursuing her VN degree and expects to graduate in August 2026. Through the program, she is gaining clinical knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare for providing safe, compassionate and competent patient care.

After graduation, Gaston plans to begin working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse to gain additional clinical experience while continuing her education to become a Registered Nurse.

She chose the TSUS Polk County Center because it allows her to pursue higher education close to home while remaining connected to her community. Gaston said the smaller class sizes, supportive faculty and accessible learning environment have made it easier to focus on her academic goals.

“Receiving this scholarship would mean financial relief and encouragement during an important time in my life,” Gaston said. “Nursing school is demanding both academically and financially, and this support would allow me to focus more fully on my studies and clinical training.” She also said the award represents recognition of her hard work and commitment to serving the Polk County community.

Gaston encourages prospective students to take advantage of the opportunities available at the TSUS Polk County Center, particularly those balancing work, family and school. “[The center] allows you to build a strong academic foundation while staying rooted in your community,” Gaston said.

“The scholarship Gaston received was made possible by an incredible gift to the Polk County Higher Education Foundation from some anonymous donors that believe in the power of transformative education right here in Livingston,” said Wendy Elmore, President of Lamar State College Orange. “Their commitment to growing the next generation of future leaders is a powerful reminder that when communities invest in students, they invest in a stronger future for us all.”
