International Students

Students from other countries holding visas other than permanent resident visas* are considered international students. Applicants to Lamar State College Orange may be accepted for admission and have a Form I-20 issued when all requirements have been met. These requirements include:

International Undergraduate Transfer from a US Institution:
An international student who is currently enrolled at an accredited US college or university, and wishes to transfer to Lamar State College Orange must meet one of the following criteria:

  • 0-17 credit hours must provide a high school transcript and college transcript(s) if applicable and provide proof of English Language Proficiency via TOEFL or IELTS testing which must meet Lamar’s English Proficiency standards. Test results should not be more than two years old from the date of admissions application.
  • 18-48 credit hours must provide a college transcript(s) and proof of English Language Proficiency.
  • Over 48 credit hours must provide a college transcript(s). English Proficiency requirement is waived.

International Undergraduate Transfer from non-US Institutions:
An international student transferring from a non-US Institution must meet one of the following criteria:

*I-20 or DS-2019

The certificate of eligibility must be presented at the U.S. Consulate or Embassy when applying for your F-1 or J-1 student visa, along with your unexpired passport, evidence of financial support and SEVIS fee receipt.

If you do not receive the Form I-20 or Form DS-2019, do not enter the U.S. on a B-1/B-2 tourist visa or the visa waiver program. Doing so may prevent you from beginning your academic program on time or make it necessary for you to leave the U.S. to change to student status.

How to Apply

Please use your name as it appears on your passport on your application and on all other communication with Lamar State College Orange.

1. Submit Application.

2. Submit copy of passport.

3. Submit Official Evaluation of Transcripts.

  • International applicants must have an official report of course-by-course evaluated transcripts of all secondary and post-secondary work sent to Lamar State College Orange directly by the evaluating agency. Lamar State College Orange does not provide an internal evaluation service, and you do not need to send official transcripts to our office.  These agencies may deliver your evaluation by email at Admissions@lsco.edu, or to the mailing address listed below.

4. Provide Proof of English Language Proficiency.

  • International applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency through scores on the TOEFL or IELTS.

English Waiver Criteria

English requirements will be waived for students who:

  • Are from an English waiver country.
  • Have completed 48 credits of secondary/post-secondary school from an English waiver country.
  • Have completed 48 credits of secondary/post-secondary school, taught in English.
  • Have completed a level 112 of Intensive English at a U.S. institution.
  • Have completed English Composition I and II, or the equivalent, from an accredited US institution with a grade of "C" or better.

If you believe you qualify for a Language Proficiency Waiver, please request one by emailing Admissions@lsco.edu.

5. After Acceptance to Lamar State College Orange

Upon receiving a letter of acceptance (sent via email to student’s LSCO email address), international students must submit the following documents to Lamar University internationaladmissions@lamar.edu for SEVIS I-20 (F-1 visa) issuing:

  • Copy of acceptance from Lamar State College Orange
  • Copy of passport

Additional documentation may be requested by Lamar University

Once you are issued an I-20 by Lamar University, you will need to provide a copy of the I-20 to Lamar State College Orange by one of the following methods:

Additional Requirements and Information

Students attending Texas public institutions of higher education must be in compliance with the Texas Success Initiative (TSI).  Unless exempt, students must take the TSI Assessment to determine their readiness for college-level work before being advised and registering for classes. Exemptions from TSI testing include qualifying SAT, ACT, or TAKS scores. To verify exemption or testing requirements, please contact Advising@lsco.edu or Admissions@lsco.edu for additional questions.
Before attending on-campus classes, students under age 22 must either receive a vaccination against bacterial meningitis or meet criteria to decline.

In fulfillment of immigration regulations, a student must enroll in a full-time course of study (12 semester hours or more each semester) that will lead to the attainment of specific educational objectives.
Students accepted to Lamar State College Orange may receive a registration hold on their account if the visa and/or I-20 needs to be verified by Lamar University.
It is encouraged that students reach out to the Office of Financial Aid for additional assistance with institutional scholarships and TAFSA.
Must meet with the Registrar after completing registration each semester to go over registration. This information will be shared with Lamar University International Education Department to keep records up to date.
